Working backwards because my brain says so. I haven't slept in a while, can you tell?
If I know this correctly ranch prefixes are not for color but to signify where the mare/stallion was foaled. Are there variations on this that I'm not aware of?
...actually,
yes. I for one, as I said, do NOT like putting my "ranch brand" in the horse's name unless someone is buying or recieving the horse and would like me to do so, on a horse I have bred for them or something. THEN it's cool.
I also use a variant of brands with my Welshies. They're pure to foundation. I like to designate them as such by putting |têr| in their names, like a "brand." That way if I am scrolling my horses, and I see...say...|têr| Cymylog, I know she is pure to foundation.
I have known people who used their ranch brands thusly...if the horse was bred on their ranch, the name would be...say...*BRAND* John Doe...but if the horse was BOUGHT and was unnamed, they would name him John Doe *BRAND*.
Lots of people use "brands" in different ways...to denote bloodline, colour, breeding or whatever the heck.
However
knowingly copying someone else's brand just to know the horse's
colour is pretty shady and very dishonourable.
Her original response to my asking was "That helps me know their Color.. it is a rare color and do not want to make a mistake in breeding or selling"
....uhhh, then spend three extra seconds making up a "colour denoting prefix/suffix" instead of copying someone else's. Like my |têr| "brand"...I'd be VERY peeved if someone was using it, exactly like that, and using it in a different way than I am.
Do you all think I has misworded this in any way? I've posted exactly what she told me. And I stated to her it's misleading to name your horse with "MK" soley because of its color.
No, it's pretty clear, pretty cut and dried. It also seems like the MK-colour-person is not the LEAST bit concerned with how them using MistyKnoll's brand makes other people feel. That speaks volumes to me.
The way you worded the poll of course no one would say yes..
...I'd honestly like to know how THEY would have worded it to get more "no" responces. Seriously.
LOL I am not naming my horses after the MK brand..they are all branded with my brand..and it is for color purposes only.
I must ask...are these MK-branded-but-not-MistyKnoll horses RELATED to MistyKnoll's horses? I'm...a little unclear here.
So unless the ADMINISTRATION says I can't name my horses that it really doesn't matter does it.
...well yeah that is in fact the long and short of it, right there.
