Placing Gaps

Postby white_horse_lover » Sun Sep 11, 2011 3:03 pm

I had a question regarding placement gaps. I've noticed in a set of four events, against the same horses, my horses placement will range from 3rd to 10th. To me that gap seems a little too large to make sense. I would understand maybe a place or two each time, but why would there by a 7 place gap?

Probably close competition. And there is somewhat of a random factor to consider as well.

What Kelsey said, definitely. Look at the individual horses in the event. If the horses in first through tenth are basically the same age with the same training and about the same confy scores, that's why it's random. Competition is so close that there is no way to consistently place a horse, so random factors take over. Sometimes your horse has a good show day, sometimes it just doesn't want to get out of the trailer.

Yup, and honestly... in close competition... it would be very frustrating for other people (with horses trained equally as well, with build/height/whatever correct) if the game picked the same three horses over and over.

I really only notice this in SUPER competitive events right now (like dressage at the moment) or the events known to be more random (3day/trail)... so it must be closeness in training... if you enter some of the less popular events horses will place almost the same every time, with a variation between like three or four places usually, if it keeps up against the same field of horses. (but, even there, you get 'random' days, it's part of the game, I have a gaited horse that placed 1st 13 times and then almost last the 14th time, then went back to 1st and 2nd, lol, it had a bad day and it wouldn't get in the trailer!)

Kinda stinks that the less popular events aren't more random. As much as I love when one of my horses destroys the competition, I feel like others aren't going to want to enter events against a horse that always wins. With the less popular events, we really can't afford to lose any eventers.

I've been trying to get people to realize the money making potential in these less popular events though, hoping more people will give them a try. I mean I have draft horses and ponies that could maintain 100% wps, even under the new system, due to lack of much competition.
People are saying $100milly winners are a thing of the past.... no so. You could totally still get $100milly earners in the less popular events if you got just enough people together to keep events going.
