Does tack have any impact?

Does tack have any impact on how well a horse does in an event? I have heard both ways with it....

What ive noticed that my horses have bombed their careers without tack, if ive forgot to add it before eventing

Tack is required for eventing in most cases. What kind of tack you use has no bearing. So if you can put western tack on a jumper and it'll score the same.

The quality of the tack gives a certain percent bonus... like traction shoes, having 100% tack gives a 10% bonus for whatever discipline the horse is trained in
