Question: what does this mean? I found it around 5 or 8 horses' tack boxes

It means... that you need to tack your horse up if you want to event it... but that you have no bits (or the wrong kind) on the ranch that the horse is on. Unless you mean something different, I may be misunderstanding...

But when I went to another horse that didn't have ANY tack on her at all .. I had 20 some bits available for use, but none were available when I had looked at the other horse.

Did you have the correct bit type? There's two types: Snaffle and Curb.

Most events require a Snaffle, but Western requires the Curb.

Maybe a link to the horse/s in question will help

Edit: I checked my inventory and I do have a ton of snaffle bits but I don't have any available curb bits available. So I think you're right, because they are trained in western so maybe the game knows that they're not supposed to have a snaffle bit! lol

99% sure Western is the only event to use Curb
