Grades vs. hybrids

Postby Sparky Lurkdragon » Sun Mar 27, 2011 11:33 pm

Are hybrids still supposed to be breedable when it's not an oddball horse type (Zebra/Cow/etc.)? Because I just had a Mustang stud throw two of them, one with a non-Palomino American Walking Pony, the other with an AraAppaloosa. Not that I mind too much, live and learn, but I thought you'd get a Feral Grade out of those kind of matchups?

Links to the horses in question please :D

Typically you'll only get Hybrids when crossing a mare with one of the oddball breed stallion(cow, zebra, Trojan, etc).

However to know what happened with you, I need to look at the foals in question ;)

Hmm, well I would have expected a Grade. However I just tried breeding with those breeds, and got the same result as you - Hybrids (well, I did after I remembered to dye the American Walking Pony >.>). Didn't do a Welsh Pony cross with a Mustang, but would suspect it would result in the same as above.

The Crossbreeding chart does say it would be a Grade or a Hybrid, but why it's actually a Hybrid stumps me . . . Might have to do with stats (unlikely), and as the horses above, and the ones I've just tried are untrained . . .

Meh, I dunno LOL

Hmmm...

...Okay, I'm wondering now if there's a glitch with Ferals/Ferrils or something. I just tried breeding the AraAp with a trained Grade AAA Feral and got another Hybrid.

Stud: http://www.virtualhorseranch.com/viewho ... se=1214518
Dam: http://www.virtualhorseranch.com/viewho ... se=1515861
Foal: http://www.virtualhorseranch.com/viewho ... se=2156951

ETA:

And yet more Science. Certainly smells like a glitch... AAA Feral x AAA Feral = AAA Feral like normal, but AAA Feral x D Feral = hybrid. In the breeding guide, AAA x AAA lists AAA, while AAA x D lists "Grade or hybrid". Used the same Stud as above.

AAA Foal: http://www.virtualhorseranch.com/viewho ... se=2156952

this actually happened once before during some changes made to the game, I REALLY agree that it's a glitch, this exact same thing was happening to me right after Nef fixed a bunch of spelling errors and such and feral breedings got so messed up that a feral breed x feral AAA wouldn't give you the breed that you were supposed to get... I used to breed feral AAAs a LOT of different ways since I work with them so often and I have done several of these crosses in the past without hybrids, always AAAs... definitely seems like a bug of some sort to me....

Doesn't appear to be affecting other D-grades (just tested with my Confy Draft D's; they popped out a Draft D like normal), so I'll bet it is indeed something to do with the grade breed names still "Ferril" but the breed type corrected to Feral.

Maybe this topic should be moved to Bug Reports; I thought I was just being derpy again when I made it. Oh well, guess I'll go for some other confy D breed in the meanwhile.
