Harness question...

Postby Zimmy » Sun Nov 29, 2009 7:00 am

For Harness Racing, what are the breeds (other than the Standardbred) that are known to not break gate?

I am kind of wanting to play with something more difficult than the standy for my next harness racer but I can't remember the other breeds (I think there are two others?) that are Sport and do not break gate.

Cookies for anyone who can help. :)

Standies,Finnies & Russian Orlovs are the breeds that maintain stride.
I've tried both ,but the standies are by far better. :(

lol, I was about to post that I figured out which breeds. Yeah, the Orlovs have especially yucky stats for it, but I like to give myself side projects when something that I am working on gets a bit monotonous so I am gonna have a go at it anyway. lol.

Thanks so much for your reply!

Welcome :)
I've started working with a RO about a week ago.Unfortunatelly,I couldn't find events for her and the ones I found 2 days ago haven't run yet.
I'll pm you as soon as they run with a link to her to have a taste of how they compete :)

That would be really great, thanks! I actually have to roll the parents and get the foal still before I can train it. lol. So mine may be a little time in the making.

Orlovs are challenging :)

Neither one of those I was very nice to though. I ran both for the most part in open events and they were and are pretty young so I think they can do alot better lol.

Yeah, I know their stats are.. oogy compared to Standys... I just wanted something silly to mess with... but then I ended up busy again so at the moment I have a colt and filly to roll and get foals from which I would then need to event train so... no idea if I will actually ge there. lol.
