Question regarding event entries

Postby indie » Tue Oct 20, 2009 9:30 pm

Hi everyone,
I have been having so much trouble getting people to enter the events I set up (Western Pleasure, Open, limited to 17 or 18 years maximum with whatever the default is as the minimum). I don't set any other limits on it but for some reason people aren't entering. This is the case on my sponsor with Ranch Management skill and maximum prize purses. I have advertised them in the eventing connect forum here. I don't care if they fill all the way, I will run them at 10 entries - but right I've got like 3-5 total, half of which are mine.

I know that every account is limited to 4 entries per event. My question is whether it is against the rules to enter more than that using additional accounts? I'm 95% sure it is - at least it probably should be - but I just want these events to RUN! It is frustrating because there aren't many WP events available and my horses are sitting around waiting for their classes to run. Between my two sponsors I can't host any more events until the 8 I have up are completed - it's very frustrating!

I've heard it mentioned somewhere that events that don't get enough entries get deleted - is that true? And how are my horses ever supposed to get any show experience if that is the case?

I think as long as there are 4 horses in your events (belonging to more than just you) the OPs will run them at about 3 days late. You are not allowed to enter more from another account... and if you need to poke me because I haven't noticed new pleasure events please do, I usually have at least one horse on the older end of things that is in Pleasure.

Thanks Zimmy, I figured as much about it not being allowed. Makes perfect sense that it isn't.

I am going to start making them unlimited and just enter other people's events when they are younger, that way hopefully they'll fill a bit more. :)

Yeah, with a lot of events I try to go with everyone else's flow unless I really really need specific events... they can be so hard to fill... heck a lot of normal events are hard to fill right now. lol.

Ok . . . I can clear up all of this I thinks :D

* Yes, it is against the rules to enter more than four horses, from multiple accounts. Its four horses per player, not per account. This rule also pertains to leasing horses out to other players, by the way (not including Trainoffs run from here on the Forums).

The only exception to this rule is Polo. You may run an entire team (from the same account), which is 15 horses.

* If events don't get at least 4 horses, owned by at least two different players, with the horses all being actually trained for the event (so roughly equal chance to win. People often use untrained horses as fillers. This isn't acceptable with only 4 entries), then yes, the event will be deleted. The time frame to get enough entries is 3 days. If the event is over due by three days and still does not have enough entries, it will be deleted. If the event does have more than four entries, but less than ten, then one of us Ops will run the event at 3 days overdue :)

I've somewhat noticed with Western Pleasure at the moment is that people are starting their horses ridiculously young (in my opinion, of course xD), so there are very few people willing to enter their younger horses in the more open events. Unfortunately it just happens :( Your best bet is to find a buddy who has a couple of Pleasure horses to enter every time . . . at the very least you should be able to make the 4 minimum entries requirement to get the event ran.

Thanks everyone! Good suggestions. I'll poke you both when I have events up and I will run them unlimited from now on.

I noticed all the young pleasure eventers too. I used to start mine at 15 and go til 19 - it was a smaller event "life" but they were nicely centered around the bonus and I had excellent success with it. It blows my mind to see people cutting off events so early - 10, 12, 15 - the horses aren't even in their prime yet, but no one seems to be eventing them past then. Which doesn't make any sense to me because the peak bonus is 17.5! I mean of course I am not going to tell other people how to play the game but I don't get it :P

I agree... very few events seem to be "in style" to run close to prime age, the new fad seems to be starting everything as young as possible... It happens to me in HoF too, where the opt age is also older... yet I can never find all age events for my horses that are the proper age... everything is geared towards younger horses.

True, the age restrictions are getting ridiculous. I'm not fond of the under 6 Dressage, the under 5 Barrels, and the under 5 Endurance. At first it made some sense; cut the high earners out by making the event just outside their range. Now its become more about how young you can put the horse out rather than how well its trained. The age restricted HoF and Pleasure at least make some sense in that if your Jumper goes downhill around age 13 you can get into HoF and with Pleasure your oldish Reining horses can fit right in.
