Breeding for height

Postby indie » Tue Jun 14, 2011 10:37 pm

Hey guys, I have a question regarding breeding for height!

My latest personal breed was meant to be much shorter than it came in as - I have no idea if that is something that can or will be fixed or not. But I'm wondering if this is something that can be bred out or not - will a foal's height always range between its parents' heights, or can you get one that is smaller?

foals height seems to be an average of the parents height, so I don't think you'll be able to get them any smaller than the smallest foundy that you have :\

yeah, I agree, since a PB is not something you can change the height of through cross breeding... like my really short Rhinos! lol, no idea why they are smaller than my pony breeds. hehe.

I have known Nef to fix the height on a breed if it really didn't match up, but usually it's done so that they will get smaller (or in the case of my draft mules, taller) as you breed out, the foundy height isn't usually changed but over generations they reach the 'correct' height... so if it really has to do with your breed type you could try a ticket... it took a while with my mules but since they were pony height but draft mules she was cool about changing it... too bad I didn't think about that with my Rhinos... but luckily my rhinos still seem to do just fine with their stumpy short leggies.

They are a fictional breed based on a baseball position that is usually short and speedy, I asked for a range of 14-15hh if possible, but most of my foundies are well over 16hh. :(

is it a pony breed? If it's a pony breed and not pony height I would think you could still ask for a fix... and maybe even ask if it's possible because of the reason that you just listed... may take a while to get it done is the only bad part, but I am sure you could ask about it

It is a stock breed but I have asked about it in a ticket as I also ended up with the wrong number of foundies for them - I think Nef is super busy right now though
