Broodmares and Breeding

Postby CWS SEF Stables » Thu Nov 11, 2010 6:13 pm

before I start breeding my horses, to make better generations, I was wondering what makes an excellent broodmare. what makes some better than others, and which ones to choose when buying.
My plan is, take my best eventing stallions and breed to another well evented mare or a rolled mare. Is that a good tactic? what is yours?

Also, when I start breeding, what skills or bonuses should i have? How will this give me an advantage?

And, I took my recently rolled mare. she has thrown some pretty good foals. her stats wern't bad before she was trained. My multimillion dollar winning stallion is who i bred her too. His stats were good. his parents. ect. This would be his first foal. both the parents strength was atleast (104) and the foal's came out something like (98) And i know, at the time, i didnt have any bonuses or skills for breeding. and when the foal came out, it didnt represent either parents at all. Would not having bonus' have this large of an effect on the outcome?

Thanks! :D

Eventing horses rarely make the best broodstock unless they are rolled after done eventing.

That foal isn't really that bad considering it was born without breeding skill. If you add 5 points to each of the stats, that's about what it would have looked like if it had been born with skills. It would have been better if the stud had been maxed in all stats and rolled to 20 or 22

from my experience the raising of the stat doesn't give you higher numbers on the foal, instead the amount of rolling done to each stat seems to give me the best foals.. however I am sure some people disagree, that is just what I have seen with my own breeding. (and that came out all strange sounding because I forget to use terms like actual stat and stat title and percentage and whatnot because I get them mixed up, but I am sure most people can clear that one up for you, rofl).

If you plan to breed winner to winner you must roll them as much as possible during and after training really... I often (if I want to use a money earning sire AND dam) roll the stud to 32 to get those extra rolls since the mares often don't have much rolling time left when they are done eventing... it gives me higher BC foals when I do it that way... the other option is to use only one high earning parent and one really well rolled parent... as Bama said, eventing horses do not always create the best foals.
