What is the best..?

What is the best Photoshop program to use? I would like to buy a Photoshop program, I just don't know which one is the best. I will hopefully make banners, manips, and layout stuff using Photoshop. Help please!

Currently, the best Photoshop program is CS3. Though if you're starting out, I definitely wouldn't fork over $600 for it. Try GIMP. :D Just google GIMP. It's a free program and I've heard it can do a lot of the same things that Photoshop can.

Yea, $600 is a lot. I will talk to my mom about GIMP. See, I saw Photoshop Elements 6, I believe it was, at the store for pretty cheap, $86. Does that work well also?

Me and my mom are trying to figure it all out :D

6.0 is pretty good, you don't have to have the latest photoshop to make decent stuff xD

All my colourings done on photoshop 4.0.

I'd go with GIMP to start out with  I find it better then a photoshop 6.0 that I had. All of my work is done on it.

Actually - you can download both Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 and Photoshop CS3 from Adobes homepage, trying them out for free for 30 days.

If you don't have the money for CS3, I would download GIMP and the trial version of Elements, try them both out and see what suits your need, and what you like best. If it's GIMP, then you already have it. If it's Elements, then you know what to buy.
