Stirrup Bar - Keeps the Stirrup leather on and in place

Seat - .... The part you sit on..

Panel - Thingy under the saddle

Skirt - Leather stuff on a Western saddle

Stirrup Leather Keeper - The Keeper of a Leather stirrup

Billet Straps- The pretty leather thing behind the stirrup on a western saddle

Girth Buckle Guard - A buckle that gaurds the girth

Cantle - The part behind the seat that goes up

Browband - BROWband. Even though horses do not have eyebrows if they did it would go there.

Cheek Piece - The part that goes across the cheek


Noseband - .... NOSE band. The part that goes on the nose

Reins - It moves the horses head.

I would have to question your riding abilities if your teaching a pony to left lead canter and goin to Pony Metals if you don't know what the parts of the bridle are and a saddle are.

All I did was Google "Parts of the saddle". I'm sure you can find similar results for a Google search for "Parts of the bridle".


Side notes on Cav's post: "Billets" are actually the things the girth attaches to and have nothing to do with a western saddle (although some western saddles that are built for an English-style buckle girth do have them). They're labeled as "Girth Tabs" in the second diagram. The "skirt" can be either an English or Western saddle part, although they are not the same thing. The "skirt" in English terminology means the small leather bit that covers the stirrup bar. In Western terms, it is the kind of square bit of leather that extends behind the cantle, as labeled here.
