::What are "holiday" dyes?::

Holiday dyes or "box" dyes are simply the dyes that you can put on a horse, and they appear in a sort of viewable rectangle, showing the color. For example, this horse has a box dye. As you can see, after it says "Color:", there's an image of a color, rather than just the text (such as "Chestnut", " Black", and so on..) like on most normal horses.
As I recall correctly, they were given as presents of some sort, one Christmas, a few years ago, by Nef. Each account recieved (I think) at least one, which went into the ranch's inventory. Most players used them on their horses at the time they received them, and they've been bred down to others over the generations, but a few very rare ones are left, unused, in a few ranches' inventory. This is also why they sell for so much, nowadays.



::Why the heck do they have box dyes?::

It's just for show. People like seeing the pretty colors, I suppose. I think they're nifty. They've also proven to be quite popular, especially on certain Western horses like CLA Life World and such. :3 Othewise, there's not really a specific reason for having them.
So, no, they don't make your horses uber, or anything. ;D However, their growing popularity may be caused by the fact that there is only a limited amount of non-used ones laying around on certain lucky accounts, and the ones that ARE left are kind of seen as rare relics.



::How can I search for them on horses, in the marketplace?::

When looking for horses in the marketplace, type the following text in the "Color:" box:

This code will only work for the First Generation dyes, from Bay1 through Silver1. Depending on which First Generation color you want to look for, you can change the "bay1" part to whatever box dye you're looking for, specifically.

***To look for the 2010 Winter box dyes, 2010 Halloween box dyes, 2011 Spring box dyes, 6 year sponsor box dyes, 2011 Wintum box dyes, and 2012 Holiday gift box dyes you must type the following text in the "Color:" box:

And, again, simply change the "blizzard.jpg" part to the code name (don't forget the ".jpg" or .png!) to whichever 2010, 2011 or 2012 dye you're looking for (look in each post below for more info on the code names and file types.)



::How can I put them on a horse?::

There are two ways of getting these dyes on horses. The first his the pretty basic one; simply by breeding the color through its descendants, as you would do with most custom colors, dyes, etc.
You can also give the color to a horse by going to your inventory ("My Inventory"), selecting "Dye" from the drop-down select thingy (it's at the bottom of the list), and clicking "Search my items". If you WERE there when they were given out, a few years ago, and you did in fact recieve them, then they should be there, if you haven't used 'em yet. To put the dye you've chosen, on a horse, just look to the right of the dye's image, and you should see three options: "Offer for Sale", "Destroy Item" and "Use Item".
Simple enough, I gather. ^^



::How do I get them?::

Box dyes are released in sets and can be purchased from the Goodies page in game. They can also be purchased via tokens by submitting a ticket to Orbis Worlds stating which current box dyes you wish to order, so long as you have the tokens in your account to do so.

Also note that the dyes are always limited! Once they are no longer on the goodie page, then you can NOT purchase them unless they get put back on the goodies page, which sometimes happens every few years.



::Which are they?::

Here's a snazzy little list I put together, to show off the many colors and their names, for people to use without fuss. <3 To the left, the colors are shown how you would see them on a horse, and beside them (to their right) is their name, accordingly. I think these are all of them, but if you see that I've missed some, please just say the word!
