Suggestions on breeding slimmer foals?

Postby Odette » Mon Oct 18, 2010 5:29 am

I need your help/suggestions on how to produce slimmer ponies.
I have the Orlov Trotter pb, which is of medium build. They are great in Harness Racing & Jumping ,but fail epicly at Fox-hunting. :cry2:
I cannot blame their stats, as their bc is Ex/Su/Ph/Ex and they roll easily to Am/Su/In/Ex during training. So, I suppose that their build is the problem.

Among my 8 foundations, there is a pair of slim build.Their offspring is also slim ,but this is where the party ends. From the confy trial I can see that my slim pairs are critically slim, so when I breed them they produce medium foals.

I know that Driving affects build ,but pushes it to the drafty side. So, I roll-preped a pair using Speed Lap, Track Endurance, Obstacle & Gaited & rolled with Arena Enrage. Guess what?Medium foals. :fight:

Any suggestions on how to starve my fat cows? :ooops:

Just a suggestion, because I've never tried it, but try training speedlaps (speed), gaited (str) and obstacle, in other words, leave out the track endurance. For me, logically, speed laps would produce a slimmer horse, anything that required a lot of strength, such as endurance may have no effect at all on the foal. The (endurance, heavy) also makes me wonder what else it's affecting. Does it mean it's heavy on the endurance or a heavier build? Keep in mind that if the foals are just on the brink, it may just take a few breedings to catch the one that is still slim.

What about maybe polo? It doesnt touch strength at all once it caps, but I dunno how it affects strength in comparison to speed laps while maxing. Worth a try maybe?

Thank you very much for replying.
I'll give a try to both methods and let you know the confy results :)

I would try keeping diet below 100% too, for the enitre time. Since it says 'Growing skinny due to lack of adequate food quantities' I would think the horse gets a little thinner each turn.

Valþognir suggested that too & it seems logical to me as well, but there is the problem of lowering strength

when you train, just train driving or something each turn to make strength go up 0.05 total each turn so it wont affect it much. Depending on where you want strength (if you're rolling it or not), its easy enough to put it in the middle or low or high as long as you leave a little wiggle room between stats. It'll be a PITA if you autoroll, but it is doable. I've done it before, lol.
