Is there a method to the madness? Confy help...

So I've been playing around with my confys again and after breeding them for about an hour straight I looked to see who, if anyone was throwing the best foals. My stally has produced eleven foals (most mine, some not). I release all foals with scores above 31 (I'm planning to go to above 30 shortly). As far as my mares go, my eight year old 28.41 scored mare hasn't produced any foals that I decided to keep. Meanwhile, my 6 year old 30.81 has produced a 29.02 foal. My 28 score mare who is now retired only produced three decent foals in her breeding carreer (she evented for about a year and a half and has been breeding constantly since). Is it all completely random or is there something I'm missing? It seems like the higher scored horses are producing slightly better foals, or at least producing more decent ones. Also the lowest score I've bred so far is 28.41 (out of a horse with a score of 30.26). Would it help to try to breed a couple horses with a horse who has a score of 27 or lower?

Horses can be high either above or below the conformation standard, so if your stud is scored below confy standards and the 30 mare is scored above, they could indeed produce a foal in the middle that's closer to exact confy than either of them. If the 28 mare is also scored below confy standards, as is the stud, chances are the foals are going to be closer to her and the stud than to confy and may even get worse as the stats continue to fall.

To be successful in breeding confy, you have to look at each stat's score, not the overall score. Just like when breeding for BC, you look at each stat, Strength, speed, intel and endurance. Confy is just harder because there is no cap, your horse can go either above OR below and the farther from confy standards it is, the higher the score. Plus you also have to watch height, build and personality. And there is a random factor as well. Even if you breed a stud that's 2 points over in each stat with a mare that's 2 points under in each stat, you might still have foals that are as much as 4 points under in some stats and right on in others. The closer to conformation standards you are, the more luck plays a part and the harder it gets.

Ok thanks. I'll go back and pay attention to where the horses are high/low at and start breeding according to that.
