How to create dye

How do you create a dye? I know where to purchase them from, but I was wondering what it takes to create your own.

One of the ones that is just a word, such as Black, Bay, or Black Palomino, are created using the Sponsor skill of Item Crafting and selecting to make a dye (can't remember what exactly its called). The ones that are a box and appear as a color with the color written inside are box dyes which were a gift and cannot be created (the exception is the 6th year sponsor rewards). The ones that are odd are probably goodie dyes which can be bought off the goodie page using rl money. There are also a few that are just a word which were a gift and can no longer be made.
