When I send a horse back via contract to it's owner the contract still apears in my contracts, but the horse is with the owner. Could someone please fix this for me? Thank you

Say the owner has set up two accounts for on horse, Contract A and Contract B.

They use contract A to lease the horse to their holding account, and contract B to lease the horse to you.

When you cancel your contract B, it sends the horse back to the owner, and cancels contract A, because it was the first one set up.

Really I suppose it should cancel both contracts, or send the horse back to contract A.

Not really helpful, lol, but it does explain why it happens. If you go to the contracts page and cancel it (instead of doing it from the horse's page) then it'll cancel your contract straight away.
