(Potential) Build Glitch?

Postby Ebony_4_Life3 » Fri Apr 11, 2014 1:32 am

Hey everyone! I've been trying to slim out a line of GWBs, and it seems to have hit a some sort of a wall- I have yet to breed up the 3rd gen from foundy, but my results from the second gen don't seem to make much sense.

All the foals I bred up seem to be a good chunk bulkier than their sire and dam, which is the exact opposite of what I was looking for (was hoping to hit +20 to get very slender foals this generation). Is there a cap to how slender a certain breed can be born?

:EB: Cologne (+14.7428)- http://www.virtualhorseranch.com/viewho ... se=2362098 [(+26.8583)x(+17.07)]
:EB: Coburg (+14.8328)- http://www.virtualhorseranch.com/viewho ... se=2362099 [(+26.8583)x(+17.07)]

:EB: Crivitz (+14.59)- http://www.virtualhorseranch.com/viewho ... se=2362100 [(+26.6917)x(+16.7783)]
:EB: Celle (+14.68)- http://www.virtualhorseranch.com/viewho ... se=2362101 [(+26.6917)x(+16.7783)]

:EB: Creußen (+14.7733)- http://www.virtualhorseranch.com/viewho ... se=2362105 [(+26.6917)x(~16)]
:EB: Calau (+14.6833)- http://www.virtualhorseranch.com/viewho ... se=2362102 [(+26.6917)x(~16)]

All the first gen from foundy were born about +2-4 below their dam's stat (around 4-7), with the stallions being around +13-+17.

Only answer I can think of is a cap on their slimness (which is something I haven't heard of), but as a breed that's has a natural build of slim they should be able to get down at least one build point (I see many that are medium-heavy, which is two points up). I've also seen very slender DoMoWs, which have a natural build of medium.

Any ideas? Thanks for the help :)

Actually there is a cap for most breeds, I've been slimming/bulking many different breeds (including the GWB), all being pure, non inbred.

Some breeds I have found that do slide backwards readily are:

GWB (slimming)
DoMWs (slimming) in 3rd Generation another 3 gens to go (but still Medium build)
AraAppaloosa (slimming)
North African Barb
Spanish Barb
Pintabian

Alright, thanks. I guess I'll just have to see what shows up in the next generation then- do you know what the cap is for GWBS (and by that, I mean have you successfully bred them to very slender at least? :P)

No, I haven't been able to get them to very slender.

I don't know if this will help.

DoMWs

Go slim at +20 below 0

However if breeding a +23 build to a +18 build the foals are 11.???+

Awesome, thanks :). Very helpful.

And I'll just keep playing with the GWBs then, maybe if I can't get very slender I can shove them into eventing or cross country or something haha :P
