Strictly for colour, no. The colour of a horse in a photo can't be copyrighted. If any part of the pose is also 'borrowed', though, that's when you need permission in writing.

Just in case, a question....

I have pictures that I have taken at the local racetrack or at the Boy Scout Camp, and I wish to use them in banners/pics/reference them for poses. I have a separate two threads for Stock that players of VHR can use freely, so I don't wish to post my personal use pics on Photobucket. How would I reference the source?

Ah, thanks for asking. I totally forgot to address that.

You may cite yourself as a reference and use photos you took yourself. Same rules apply, make sure there's a note somewhere that the photos are yours, and credit yourself on the image just so no one reports it. That's really something we kind of have to take players' word on. HOWEVER. If it's discovered that you (in a general sense, not you specifically XD) didn't actually take the photos, and are claiming them as yours to get around copyright, the ban will be increased to a week as penalty for both stealing and lying about it.
