Morab X Appendix Quarterhorse = ???

Postby Sparky Lurkdragon » Mon Jun 23, 2008 9:46 pm

So, I use a lot of crossbreeding in one of my projects, and thus spend a lot of time going through the crossbreeding chart. Today I noticed something odd: if you ask what a Morab/Appendix QH will give you, the site spits back a blank message.

In the interest of science, I yoinked a hopeless AppQH mare off the market ( http://www.virtualhorseranch.com/viewho ... se=1567086 ) and bred her to the Morab I'll be using for said project ( http://www.virtualhorseranch.com/viewho ... se=1377613 ).

The result was a Grade Show B ( http://www.virtualhorseranch.com/viewho ... se=1609888 ).

But then! I went back to the crossbreeding chart and discovered... an Appendix QH/Morab cross spits back a blank message - but with "tennesse" code up top, implying a Tenessee Walking Horse. Intriguing!

So. I finished rolling the stud, got me a bouncing baby Morab mare ( http://www.virtualhorseranch.com/viewho ... se=1609954 ), and while prepping her for her future career as broodmare found a cheap Appendix QH stallion ( http://www.virtualhorseranch.com/viewho ... se=1596433 ) to breed. For SCIENCE.

And what should pop out but a Grade Stock B ( http://www.virtualhorseranch.com/viewho ... se=1609986 )?

Odd little glitch. Doubly odd because American QH crosses and Appendix QH usually produce the same result - American QH/Morab gives you a Standardbred.

That's because the foal takes on it's sires breed type.

eg: if you breed a Morab stud to a stock type mare, it'll throw a show type foal, or if you breed a stock type stud to a Morab, you'll end up with a show type foal.

if that made sense.. lol

...Yes, I know that. The breeding chart throwing up a blank message and a blank message with the Tennesse Walking Horse code is the bizarre part.

Guess I misunderstood your question. =)

It's odd about the crossbreeding chart, but not surprising.
