OK, I've tried to set up my own layout for my ranch but everytime I change something in the original source, it doesn't do anything! I have tried the suggestion in the FAQ or wherever it was, but I wanted to know why you had to put it in certain areas, plus, it wasn't doing anything either. Help!!!!!

The one that is created in the beginning of the ranch. I tried to change that. Should I make one from scratch instead?
