breeding questions

Hey. As I've said, I've been gone for quite awhile, and now that I'm back, there are a couple of things that I don't remember or that are new, all about breeding.

-The bonus for the breeding skill (foals at 95%), does that if the barn where the foal was bred has the bonus, or the barn where the foal is born?
-similarly for showing with the new bonuses, do they work if the person who enters the horses in the show has that bonus, or the barn which they are in when the show is run?
-this whole saving semen thing - how does it work? I see that there is a link to do that; do you press that button once for 1 harvest? How many can you get from each stallion? I read somewhere that they will work even if the stallion is over-age; does that mean that you can harvest them when the stallion is older, or just they stay around? Also, if you harvest them when the stud is younger, are the stats that are used to generate the foal that stats from the stallion at the time that you harvested or the stallion at the time that the foal was bred? Also, how do you use them?

I know there's probably this information somewhere, I'm probably just missing it in a very obvious place, but I've been searching around and haven't found it

For your first question: The 95% breeding boost is on the ranch where the foal is born.

The showing bonuses are the same. You want to have the event-specific bonuses on your eventing account (unless you're going to be eventing/training/breeding on one account, then you'll have to figure out how to balance them).

When you lease a horse over to event, the bonuses on the account it is leased to effect it in events. You'll want to enter events after sending it over though if you're going to choose "myself" as the rider for any reason.

There are 20 straws for each stallion. They don't replenish, so you want to be careful if you're going to be using one stud to breed a lot. Each time you click on the link the game takes 20,000 playcash as payment and gives you one straw.

Click the link once and you get one straw. Click it twenty times and you've taken all the straws you ever can from that stud. You can also wait to harvest the straws until you've rolled him to your preferred age (23-33 are over the breeding age, but you can still harvest straws from him.)

The stats passed on from the stud are the ones he has when the foal was bred.

To use the straws you go to the top bar where it says "Marketplace" and hover your mouse, "Freezer" should be at the right end. You click that and it takes you to the page where all of your stored straws are held. To use one you need to have the mare you want to breed in heat. Find the name of the stud you want to use in your freezer and click "Use". From that point on it's pretty much like breeding to a public stud.

Also want to add to the 20 straws thing. If you collect all 20 and then want to sell one to yourself for whatever reason (personally, all my oldies are on a retirement ranch, and I can't breed there since it's a novice acct, so I harvest semen and sell it to myself), unfortunately, the semen marketplace is screwed up, and only the most recently collected semen is listed for sale. So if you collected semen a month ago and want to sell it to yourself (or another player), it won't be there. However, if you delete a straw, it goes back to the horse.

So say you have collected all 20, and the stud has no more straws to freeze. If you delete 3 of the straws in your inventory, the stud will now have 3 straws able to be collected, which puts you back at the original 20 allowed. Pretty useful since you can freshly collect the semen and list it for sale and be able to see it on the marketplace.

The same goes for if you've sold the horse. If you sell a stud and have kept all his straws, he has none to be collected. But if you delete say 5 straws, they go back to the horse (even though you don't own him), and the new owner can now collect those 5 straws.

Make sense? I know it works that way because I do it with my sponsor and that retirement acct. all the time. I've got semen all over the place, so some from a stallion is on one ranch, but if I have to transfer it and the horse is on the retirement account, I can delete the straw, log off, go to the retirement ranch, collect the straw from the horse, list it for sale, and then buy it on another account. Tedious, but if you have to for whatever reason, at least you can.
