In your family, your grandparents are one generation, your parents are another generation, you are a third generation and your children are yet another generation.

A pure horse goes all the way from the foundation horses (the one's with parents named unknown) down to your horse with no other breeds as parents.

A pure American Quarterhorses foal would have all its parents, grandparents, great grandparents and so on as American Quarterhorses, until you reached foundation.

Yep =) But you have to check the parents of every horse yours is connected to, so you could be checking hundreds of horses. =)
