Feeds in the store?

I can't help but notice everytime I go to the store for vaccines, leather etc. etc; there is Alfalfa, Grain, Hot Oats & Oathay as well. So, what is this for exactly? I mean, you can buy it but what do you do with it exactly? I understand it's made to feed the horses (duh! lol), but how exactly do you get to feed your horses it? Any help with this question would be greatly appreciated

It's probably something that was used way back in the game, but it isn't used anymore; just like the horses getting injured and such.
