Horse with no parents?

Postby KittyBix » Fri Jun 26, 2009 3:48 am

Heya,

I've been looking through stud lists, and have gotten myself a bit confused. I've got a few foundies, and they all have 'unknown' as their sire and dam. That part I get... what is confusing me is that some horses going back in pedigree seem to have no parents at all. The sire and dam is just blank. Are those horses still pure? The FAQ states that horses don't get deleted unless they have no foals, so why do some horses look like they have no parents, or in some cases just one? I'm still new, so don't know all of the ins and outs yet, but I am working on a project with pure lines, and I do not want to mess up my plans by breeding to the wrong horse.

Several years ago, Nef did a major reset of the game, and a bunch of horses "without significant bloodlines" got deleted. There was a huge uproar, but nothing to be done to fix it. The horses that were deleted are now missing in pedigrees, which is why you find those dead ends sometimes. Most people consider horses to be pure; if say you have a QH, and all the horses in its lines are QHs or foundation QHs with the (unknown) parents, or if the line stops with a hole in the pedigree.

I hope I explained that ok. Feel free to make me clarify :giggle:
