Any diet that ends up as 100% is fine. I prefer using the 20/15/50/15 diet for all my horses. Others prefer 35/15/35/15.

One thing to remember is that diets don't really do anything to the mood of the horse, and that is the important thing when eventing.

For a Trail horse, the horse needs to be Very Hyper (I'm pretty sure, and the trial for this event is screwy on the hyperness), so you need to meth the horse regularly. To double check, have a look at the horses eventing successfully at the moment and see if they are hyper or mellow.
