Trainoff Guidelines (aka Trainoff rules)

Postby Trixter » Tue Dec 22, 2009 6:20 pm

Hey all, just wanting to lay down some basic guidelines to adhere to when hosting trainoffs.

Make sure you know what your rules are before you start taking applicants. These rules MUST be posted so everyone can see them before they enter. It’s simply not fair if you start making up rules halfway through the trainoff.

While you are free to amend your ending dates, doing this several times so that the trainoff is prolonged indefinitely (and consequently, trainers are never paid for their work) is not acceptable.

When you post what the prizes are for your trainoff, you are agreeing that you are able to hand those out and will do so in a timely manner at the conclusion of the trainoff. Decreasing prizes partway through is not a good practice, although increasing them (if desired) is acceptable. If you promise something like a dye or upgrade and for some reason are unable to purchase this at the conclusion of the trainoff, a prize of equal value must be offered.

If changes to rules prizes are to be made, host must make sure EVERY participant is agreeable to the changes before proceeding.

Only run one trainoff at a time.

If you have a special scoring rubric, post this so participants/Ops are able to ensure everything is running as it should be.

Do not mix individual- and team-training in the same trainoff. It’s either all train as individuals or all train as teams.

If you are hosting a joint trainoff (more than one person providing horses to be trained & prizes) make sure you have some way of ensuring the promised prizes will be delivered to participants, even if one of the hosts disappears.

Trainoff events must also have a minimum of 6 active participants to be considered a full trainoff. This is because it requires 6 horses for the events to run, so we will not view it as a full trainoff until there are 6 active participants. This is when Ops will remove non train off horses from the events for the host.

Trainoff horses may enter non trainoff events if the train off host allows it. However, these would still be non trainoff events and would follow the four horses rules like any other non trainoff event. Having six or more participants does not circumvent the four horse rules in public events.
Four horse rules can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=158976

Added: Train-offs do fall under contests and must adhere to contest guidelines as well. Contest rules can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=27&t=170467

Quick question: If you say you MIGHT be able to purchase a goodie dye, sponsor, etc. for a prize, are you still promising one?

If you aren't sure you can provide it, don't mention it.

Can you hold a train-off where they can be trained by anyone not necessarily the player themselves? I guess it would be more like an eventing contest. I am just thinking more players could participate this way in the contest I want to hold and so could novices. But I am not sure if this is allowed. Thanks in advance.
